The Link Between Stress and Magnesium

Updated: Jul 6

Magnesium is one of the most important minerals for the body. It is absolutely needed for many processes, including energy production, nerve function, muscle contraction, and making proteins. Most people do not get enough magnesium in their diets. Symptoms of magnesium deficiency include muscle cramps, anxiety, depression,  headaches, and insomnia. These are symptoms all to common for the average person. And what is unknown to most is that when we stress and over think, we actually deplete magnesium from our bodies. This leaves feelings of hopelessness, apathy, and inadequacy.

Magnesium is also absolutely needed because it is an electrolyte (body uses it to produce electrical energy), and even more so, for thermoregulation (the regulation of body heat).  And it does this very well in the body, mainly because it creates lots of heat; and we need this because we are warm blooded beings. Thermal energy keeps things running smoothly within the body as well as allows for healing to take place. If you've ever taken thin strips of magnesium and place it next to a fire, it burns as a white flame (the hottest visible flame color).

This is a topic worthy of much more exploration and will be in future articles. But as we can see from this simple article that magnesium play a huge importance in the body. Since 2021 and the Covid-19 pandemic cases of depression and even suicide have tripled. This is something that we must and will address. Until then, be gentle with yourselves and take a deep breathe. I love you. Have a great day!
